Grief affects everyone differently, and there is no single way you are expected to feel or cope following the death of someone important to you.

Understanding Your Bereavement is a one-off, in-person group session offering a welcoming, confidential and non-judgemental environment. It provides an opportunity to learn more about grief, recognise some of the emotions you may be experiencing and explore approaches that could help when difficult days arise.

The session is led by trained bereavement volunteers and is usually attended by approximately 20 people who have also experienced the death of someone. It is open to people regardless of their relationship to the person who died or the circumstances surrounding their bereavement.

During the session, the facilitator will introduce some of the common principles associated with grief and help participants consider how these may relate to their own experiences. There will also be an opportunity to connect with other bereaved people and share thoughts or experiences.

Taking part in the group conversation is entirely optional. If you would prefer to listen rather than speak, you are welcome to do so. A facilitator will be available if you have any concerns about participating.
